Goddess Parvati became upset because food is essential for life. To teach the importance of nourishment, she made all food disappear from the world. People began to suffer from hunger. Later, Parvati appeared in Kashi (Varanasi) as Annapurna Devi and started feeding everyone, including Shiva himself.
